Baseball Game Preview: Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers vs. Elizabethtown Bears

The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers are taking a road trip to challenge the Elizabethtown Bears at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Lampeter-Strasburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Lampeter-Strasburg gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Manheim Central.

Cooper Williams made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cooper Hillen, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Chase Messinger, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Lampeter-Strasburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Manheim Central only posted a batting average of .125.

Meanwhile, Elizabethtown didn't have quite enough to beat Hershey on Friday and fell 2-1.

Elizabethtown has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Lampeter-Strasburg, their record now sits at 13-4.

Everything went Lampeter-Strasburg's way against Elizabethtown in their previous matchup on April 9th, as Lampeter-Strasburg made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
