Basketball Recap: Burrell Takes a Loss

After flying high against Derry last Thursday, Burrell came back down to earth. The Burrell Bucs came up short against the River Valley Panthers on Friday, falling 62-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bucs have suffered since January 6th.

Ava Persichetti continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for River Valley, almost dropping a double-double on 33 points and nine rebounds. Persichetti is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Morgan Cole, who posted six points and 11 rebounds.

Burrell has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-3 record this season. As for River Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.

Burrell will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Freeport at 7:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for River Valley, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-20 victory against Deer Lakes on the 28th.
