Basketball Recap: Desert View Comes Up Short

Desert View lost against Buena back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Desert View Jaguars were beaten by the Buena Colts 91-45. The Jaguars' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it ten in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Desert View lost, don't look at Luis Felix. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten boards. Those 26 points gave Felix a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Aiden Beavers, who posted four points.

Buena's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Thomas Welker led the charge by dropping a double-double with 18 points and ten rebounds. Welker continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jesus Pacheco, who had six points along with ten boards and eight assists.

Desert View's loss dropped their record down to 3-21. As for Buena, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Coming up, Desert View will be playing at home against Flowing Wells at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Desert View is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.2 points per game this season. As for Buena, they will host Cienega at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cienega knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 24 contests -- so hopefully Buena likes a good challenge.
