Recap: Loyalton Grizzlies vs. Portola Tigers
After flying high against the Princeton Eagles on Tuesday, the Loyalton Grizzlies came back down to earth. Loyalton took a 37-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Portola on Thursday. Loyalton has struggled against Portola recently, as their contest on Thursday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Loyalton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophie Holland, who scored 11 points. Catherine Petterson was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Loyalton has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Portola, they pushed their record up to 2-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Loyalton is on the road again on Friday and play against Quincy at 5:30 p.m. on December 8th. Quincy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Loyalton in California (Quincy is ranked 217th, while Loyalton is ranked 845th). Portola won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Modoc at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Modoc focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Thursday.
