Basketball Game Preview: Giltner Hornets vs. High Plains Storm

Giltner and High Plains are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2014, but not for long. The Giltner Hornets will take on the High Plains Storm in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Giltner is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Giltner is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Nebraska Lutheran on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Giltner took a blow against Nebraska Lutheran, falling 62-14. The Hornets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-6.

Meanwhile, High Plains scored the most points they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell 61-53 to Nebraska Christian. The Storm just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Giltner will need focus on slowing down Emma Brown, one of several High Plains players who made an impact when they last played. She almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards. Rylee Ackerson was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and six assists.

Even though they lost, High Plains smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Giltner's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for High Plains, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Giltner was dealt a bruising 45-16 loss at the hands of High Plains when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Giltner avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
