Football Recap: Newcomb Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Colt Yazzie and Landon Noble + How To Watch

Newcomb extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 1-5. They took a 30-18 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McCurdy Bobcats. The Skyhawks lost against the Bobcats in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 34-0 score last time.

Newcomb's loss came despite strong showings from Landon Noble and Colt Yazzie. Noble rushed for 98 yards and one touchdown, while Yazzie rushed for 35 yards and one TD.

As for McCurdy, they now have a winning record of 3-2. The matchup marked their most dominant victory of the season so far.

McCurdy was led to victory by Julian Nino and JJ Vigil. Nino rushed for 204 yards and three scores on only 12 carries, while Vigil rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Nino's longest rush was for an impressive 54 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Coming up, after each having a week off, Newcomb and Hozho Academy will shake off the rust and duke it out at 2:00 p.m. on the 11th. As for McCurdy, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 52-0 win against Santa Fe Indian on the 3rd.
