Football Game Preview: Scott Beavers vs. Holcomb Longhorns

The Scott Beavers will challenge the Holcomb Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Scott 6, Holcomb 11.4) so any points scored will be well earned.

Scott blew Hugoton out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Friday Hugoton got their revenge. The Beavers fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 17-14. The loss was the Beavers' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Holcomb put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Colby to the tune of 53-24. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Longhorns' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked 36th, while the Eagles are ranked 161st).

Holcomb's win came from a few key players Scott will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Chasyn Cosner, who rushed for 173 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 65 yards. Luke Thyne was another key player, picking up 100 receiving yards and two TDs.

Holcomb was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 225 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 209 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.

Holcomb didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Dylan Burch, Clay Tolbert, and Max Brookover picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Colby's side was Javid Corral, who forced one fumble, made six total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defended one pass.

Holcomb's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Scott, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1-1.

Scott couldn't quite finish off Holcomb when the teams last played back in November of 2024 and fell 10-7. Can the Beavers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
