The Volcano Vista Hawks will head out to take on the Farmington Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Volcano Vista's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.
If Volcano Vista beats Farmington with 35 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Hawks beat Piedra Vista on Thursday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 35-7. Considering the Hawks have won four contests by more than 27 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Volcano Vista's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was D'Angelo Mitchell, who rushed for 100 yards and three scores. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Mitchell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ismael Mendez III, who picked up 94 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Volcano Vista was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 200 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 200 rushing yards in four consecutive matchups.
Volcano Vista didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Houston Brown.
Meanwhile, Farmington faced Cleveland in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Scorpions were outmatched by the Storm and fell 49-3. The game was over by the end of the first half, with no points scored by either team from that point forward.
Volcano Vista pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 4.7 points on average over those games. As for Farmington, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Volcano Vista has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 240.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 175.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Volcano Vista against Farmington in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 41-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
