Basketball Recap: San Marcos Royals vs. Ventura Cougars
San Marcos lost against Ventura on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The San Marcos Royals were outmatched by the Ventura Cougars and fell 70-31. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 397th, while the Cougars are ranked tenth).
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ventura to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brinley Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. The game was Anderson's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailee Staniland, who went 7 for 16 en route to 21 points and six assists.
San Marcos has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Ventura, the win (which was their 22nd in a row) raised their record to 23-2.
San Marcos will be playing in front of their home fans against Dos Pueblos at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ventura, they will venture away from home to take on Rio Mesa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
