Basketball Recap: Lawndale Find Success

Lawndale hadn't done well against Culver City recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Lawndale Cardinals pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over the Culver City Centaurs. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 77-19 win the Centaurs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2020.

Lawndale's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Telayia Fuller led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Fuller is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games she's played. Kalani Pearson was another key player, putting up 14 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Lawndale has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Culver City, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lawndale will venture away from home to square off against Leuzinger at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Leuzinger will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Lawndale surely won't give up without a fight. As for Culver City, they will square off against Inglewood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
