Flag Football Recap: Newport Harbor Falls Despite Big Games from Scarlett Guyser and Skylie Cid

Newport Harbor fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Huntington Beach on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 18-12 to the Oilers. That makes it the first time this season the Sailors have let down their home crowd.

Despite the defeat, Newport Harbor had strong showings from Skylie Cid, who gained 28 total yards and two touchdowns, and Scarlett Guyser, who threw for 132 yards and one TD while completing 73.1% of her passes.

Newport Harbor didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Guyser led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. Ashlyn Spicer is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

The critical scores for Huntington Beach came from Shelby Nguyen, Kate Ross, and Roxie Shaia.

Newport Harbor's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 18-2. As for Huntington Beach, the victory was the 11th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-1.

Newport Harbor didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 27-7 win against Edison on the 1st. As for Huntington Beach, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 21-7 victory against Corona del Mar on the 1st.
