Basketball Recap: Mira Costa Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Mira Costa won the last time they faced West and things went their way on Friday too. The Mira Costa Mustangs walked away with a 63-55 victory over the West Warriors. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Warriors are ranked 113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mira Costa has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for West, with the loss, they broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-4.

Mira Costa will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Esperanza at 10:30 a.m. on January 4, 2025. West will take on Camarillo in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Camarillo knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully West likes a good challenge.
