Basketball Recap: Salinas' Winning Streak Snapped at Nine Games

Salinas and Los Gatos squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Salinas had to settle for second. They came up short against the Los Gatos Wildcats, falling 56-35. While losing is never fun, the Cowboys can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th in California, while the Wildcats are ranked 68th in California).

Salinas' defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Isabella Stepp, who posted seven points.

Salinas moved to 18-8 with that loss, which also ended their nine-game winning streak. As for Los Gatos, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Salinas does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Los Gatos, they will face off against Menlo-Atherton at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Los Gatos' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
