Softball Recap: Russellville Drops Season-High Score on South Callaway

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Russellville). They were the clear victors by an 18-4 margin over the South Callaway Bulldogs on Monday. Considering the Indians have won five games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Karsyn Duncan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Duncan was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audra Whittle, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Karleigh Grayson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.

Russellville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matchups.

Russellville pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for South Callaway, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Russellville will host St. Elizabeth at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Callaway, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Hermann at 5:00 p.m. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bearcats have averaged an impressive 10.8 runs per game this season.
