Basketball Game Preview: Cabrillo Conquistadores vs. San Marcos Royals

The Cabrillo Conquistadores are taking a road trip to face off against the San Marcos Royals at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Cabrillo will be strutting in after a win while San Marcos will be coming in after a defeat.

Cabrillo is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Paso Robles on Saturday. Cabrillo had just enough and edged Paso Robles out 39-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Conquistadores have posted since November 23rd.

Jasmyn Hughes and Sophia Austin were among the main playmakers for Cabrillo as the former posted 11 points and three steals and the latter went 6 of 12 on her way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Powell, who put up five points.

Cabrillo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, San Marcos suffered their closest loss since January 25th last Saturday. They fell just short of St. Bonaventure by a score of 45-43. The Royals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cabrillo's win bumped their record up to 9-5. As for San Marcos, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Cabrillo ended up a good deal behind San Marcos in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, losing 53-36. Can Cabrillo avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
