The Eagle's Landing Eagles will take on the Woodland Wolfpack at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Eagle's Landing took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Jonesboro, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Eagles won by a run and slipped past the Cardinals 20-19. Winning may never get old, but the Eagles sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Chase Robinson was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lynette Herring, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.
Eagle's Landing kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Woodland, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on McDonough with a sharp 18-8 win on Tuesday. Considering the Wolfpack have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Aliyah Allen and London Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Allen got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Smith went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Smith has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was AriYanna Taylor, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
The victory got Woodland back to even at 8-8. As for Eagle's Landing, their win bumped their record up to 5-9.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eagle's Landing hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .520. However, it's not like Woodland struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eagle's Landing might still be hurting after the 16-7 defeat they got from Woodland in their previous matchup back in September. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
