Baseball Recap: Rancho Bernardo Comes Up Short

Rancho Bernardo fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against San Marcos on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 6-4. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Noah Villa was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nathan Bembenek and Kameron Benavides stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bembenek went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Benavides got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run. Another player making a difference was Hugo Gonzalez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Rancho Bernardo's defeat dropped their record down to 17-9. As for San Marcos, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.

Rancho Bernardo has already played their next matchup, a 14-6 loss against La Costa Canyon on the 12th. As for San Marcos, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-2 defeat against Mt. Carmel on the 12th.
