Recap: Valley Vikings vs. West Campus Warriors
The Valley Vikings's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by West Campus at home and fell 63-21. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Valley in their matchups with West Campus: they've now lost nine in a row.
Despite the loss, Valley saw an underclassman step up: Annaliese Hernandez scored eight points.
West Campus got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Leilani Edinburgh out in front who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten assists, and ten steals. That's the first time this season that Edinburgh posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Esabel Otsuji, who scored 26 points along with three steals.
Valley has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season. As for West Campus, their victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley will take on Johnson at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Johnson will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak. As for West Campus, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Cordova at 6:00 p.m. Cordova will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 769th, while West Campus is ranked 314th).
