Basketball Recap: Heritage Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Heritage can now relate to. They took a 49-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the McKinleyville Panthers. The contest was a 24-24 toss-up at halftime, but the Patriots couldn't quite close it out.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage lost on Wednesday, don't look at Kennedy Kell. Despite the final result, she posted 17 points and five steals. Those 17 points gave Kell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Bayot, who earned six points in addition to six assists and four steals.

Heritage's defeat dropped their record down to 16-11. As for McKinleyville, their victory bumped their record up to 18-10.

Heritage does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for McKinleyville, they will venture away from home to take on Moreau Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Moreau Catholic will roll in looking for their 15th straight win, something McKinleyville surely won't give up without a fight.
