Softball Recap: Brush Takes a Loss

After flying high against Rocky Ford on Friday, Brush came back down to earth. The Beetdiggers fell just short of the Wellington Eagles by a score of 14-12 on Saturday. The Beetdiggers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Gracie Martinez and Izabella Talmich did some serious damage despite the final result: Martinez went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Talmich went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Martinez has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Haedynn Epple was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Brush's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Wellington, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brush will host Platte Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Beetdiggers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Broncos have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season. As for Wellington, they will be playing at home against Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.33 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
