Softball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 9-16. They fell 8-4 to the Cozad Haymakers. Surprisingly, this marked the Broncos' sixth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Nya Fischer stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Madisyn Shufeldt was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Cozad, they now have a winning record of 13-12. The win continues a trend for them in their matchups with Centennial: they've now won six in a row.

On Cozad's side, Sara Howell was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Howell was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Aubrey Hammerlun was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Makenna Broz, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Centennial has already played their next contest (against Southern/Diller-Odell), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Cozad, they will be playing at home against Chase County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
