Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Aislin Tamez Torres and Casey Higgins Lead La Salle to Victory

La Salle's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They came out on top against the Bonita Bearcats by a score of 48-39. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Bearcats are ranked 93rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

La Salle was led to victory by Casey Higgins and Aislin Tamez Torres. Higgins dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 boards, while Tamez Torres almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. With that strong performance, Higgins is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Riley Higgins, who posted eight points.

Bonita's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Van Duyne, who put up ten points. Lexi Mercado was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five boards and three steals.

La Salle's win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for Bonita, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-4.

La Salle will welcome St. Mary's Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. La Salle is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.3 points per game this season. As for Bonita, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 43-18 victory against Hillcrest on the 4th.
