Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Whitney's Winning Streak

After flying high against Glenn last Tuesday, Whitney came back down to earth. The Whitney Wildcats fell 55-47 to the Pioneer Titans on Friday. The Wildcats' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Pioneer's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aryanna Reyes, who went 6 of 10 en route to 13 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Another player making a difference was Aaliyah Perez - Sandi, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 11 points and five steals.

Whitney's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 19-8. As for Pioneer, they have been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 16 contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season.

Whitney and Pioneer should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Whitney (ranked 259th) will meet Oxford Academy (ranked 554th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitney is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Similarly, Pioneer will face off against Temescal Canyon at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday up 258 places (236 vs. 494).
