Two dominant signal callers in Jassi Williams and Joseph Mesa are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy Warriors will welcome the Paraclete Spirits at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up eight points last Friday, then bounced right back against St. Francis on Friday. The Warriors took their contest with ease, bagging a 42-15 victory over the Golden Knights. The game marked the Warriors' most dominant win of the season so far.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy found their leader in sophomore Williams, who threw for 371 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 74.3% of his passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Jaylen Stokes was another key player, picking up 131 receiving yards and one score.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Gregory Taylor and Francisco (June) Meza Jr. were the leaders of the group effort as each produced two apiece. Meza Jr. got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Paraclete's strategy against Bishop Alemany on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Spirits blew the Warriors out of the water with a 49-6 final score. The result was nothing new for the Spirits, who have now won three matchups by 26 points or more so far this season.
Paraclete found their leader in sophomore Mesa, who threw for 230 yards and five touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Kyle Fulton Jr also set a new season-high mark in rushing yards with 155.
One reason for the win was Paraclete's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Bishop Alemany's side was Darren Coleman, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made five total tackles.
The victory made it two in a row for Paraclete and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 20 points in those games. As for St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
St. Pius X-St. Matthias Academy couldn't quite finish off Paraclete when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 30-28. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mesa, who threw for 340 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 13.6 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 35 yards.
