Basketball Recap: Imperial Beats Yuma Catholic for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Imperial waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks by a score of 53-42. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Shamrocks, too.

Leading Imperial to victory were Elynna Jimenez and Nayeli Cardona. Jimenez posted 21 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, while Cardona scored 20 points in addition to six boards and six steals. Those five assists gave Jimenez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddie Magdaleno, who earned eight points and five assists.

Imperial has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.2 points per game. As for Yuma Catholic, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Imperial has already played their next game (against Calexico), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Yuma Catholic will take on Highland Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
