Basketball Game Preview: Mapletown Maples vs. Avella Eagles

The Mapletown Maples will head out to square off against the Avella Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mapletown is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Mapletown is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Bishop Canevin last Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mapletown had to suffer through a 53-26 loss at the hands of Bishop Canevin. The Maples were down 43-18 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Avella against Serra Catholic on Thursday as the squad secured a 56-19 win. That looming 56-19 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Avella yet this season.

Mapletown's defeat dropped their record down to 2-12. As for Avella, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-8.

Mapletown took a serious blow against Avella in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 67-32. Can Mapletown avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
