Basketball Game Preview: Laguna Beach Breakers vs. Laguna Hills Hawks

The Laguna Beach Breakers just played last yesterday, but they'll still welcome the Laguna Hills Hawks at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Laguna Beach is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Trabuco Hills just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Breakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 383rd, while the Mustangs are ranked 188th).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Fiona McCormick, who posted 14 points. Kate Cheng was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Laguna Hills, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They put the hurt on Mission Viejo with a sharp 53-31 win on Tuesday. The Hawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Laguna Hills pushed their record up to 10-2 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Laguna Beach, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-6.

Laguna Beach strolled past Laguna Hills when the teams last played back in December of 2015 by a score of 48-33. Will Laguna Beach repeat their success, or does Laguna Hills have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
