Basketball Recap: Anzar Comes Up Short

Anzar lost against Marina back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Anzar Hawks were dealt a 55-24 defeat at the hands of the Marina Mariners. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1088th, while the Mariners are ranked 524th).

Marina found their leader in sophomore Shekinah Williams, who posted 23 points along with eight boards and four steals. The match was Williams' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mia Martin, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 21 rebounds.

Anzar's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-10. As for Marina, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Anzar will welcome Gonzales at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marina, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Oakwood at 5:30 p.m. Marina is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
