Recap: Escondido Charter White Tigers vs. University City Centurions
After flying high against the Maranatha Christian Eagles on Friday, the Escondido Charter White Tigers came back down to earth. Escondido Charter took a 48-41 hit to the loss column at the hands of University City on Saturday.
Escondido Charter's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kami Gillis, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Gillis is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Harper Mowrey was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Escondido Charter smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as University City only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Leading University City to victory were Kianna LeFear and Chaya Scott. LeFear scored 14 points, while Scott dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Scott is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Bella Giron, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Escondido Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for University City, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
Escondido Charter and Santa Fe Christian will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Santa Fe Christian is ranked 909th, while Escondido Charter is ranked 887th). As for University City, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against San Diego at 6:15 p.m. Hopefully San Diego focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Monday.
