Soccer Game Preview: Village Christian vs. Maranatha

The Village Christian Crusaders will face off against the Maranatha Minutemen at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Village Christian lost 10-1 to Whittier Christian on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Crusaders in their matchups with the Heralds: they've now lost seven in a row.

Village Christian's goal came courtesy of Peighton Mikels, which was the first she's scored this season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Maranatha's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Valley Christian by a score of 2-1.

Maranatha was without their leading scorer, Ella Klop, in Friday's contest. With Klop sidelined, Maranatha had to make some changes to the lineup. And. The pair took full advantage of the opportunity: Michaela Cervantes scored a goal, while she put up one assist.

Village Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-2-1. As for Maranatha, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Village Christian came up short against Maranatha in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 2-0. Can Village Christian avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
