Preview: Los Osos Grizzlies vs. Chino Hills Huskies
The Los Osos Grizzlies will head out on the road to square off against the Chino Hills Huskies at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Los Osos focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday.
Los Osos unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak. They were the victim of a rough 62-41 defeat at the hands of Etiwanda. While losing is never fun, Los Osos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 57th, while Etiwanda is ranked third).
Despite the loss, Los Osos saw an underclassman step up: Jackie Polk scored 16 points along with two steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Polk posted two or more blocks. Katelyn Freitas was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Chino Hills took a 38-point loss the last time they faced off against Upland, but they managed to turn things around on Tuesday. Chino Hills skirted past Upland 48-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Chino Hills has posted yet this season.
Los Osos' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6. As for Chino Hills, they pushed their record up to 13-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Los Osos strolled past Chino Hills in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 62-46. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Chino Hills' Phoebe Jones, who scored 21 points along with two steals. Now that she won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Los Osos to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
