Douglas Byrd took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They breezed past the Cape Fear Colts to the tune of 78-44. The Eagles not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since December 10, 2024 (when they won 68-34).
Leading Douglas Byrd to victory were Marcus 'MJ' McDuffie and Malachi McDuffie. Marcus 'MJ' shot 87% from the field on his way to 30 points and eight rebounds, while Malachi went 8-for-13 en route to 25 points and three steals. Anthony Whitehead was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.
Cape Fear's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joshua Green, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Courtland Kennedy, who had 11 points.
Douglas Byrd wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 75-65 victory against Purnell Swett on the 24th. As for Cape Fear, they have also already played their next contest, a 63-49 loss against E.E. Smith on the 24th.
