Douglas Byrd took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. They breezed past the Cape Fear Colts to the tune of 78-44. For the Eagles, this counts as revenge for the 56-36 win the Colts walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February.

Leading Douglas Byrd to victory were Marcus 'MJ' McDuffie and Malachi McDuffie. Marcus 'MJ' went 13-for-15 to rack up 30 points and eight rebounds, while Malachi shot 62% from the field en route to 25 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Anthony Whitehead, who posted nine points and eight boards.

Joshua Green and Brady Kennedy certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Green had 15 points and three steals, while Kennedy scored 11 points and six rebounds. Green is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Jamar Godwin was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Douglas Byrd wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 75-65 victory against Purnell Swett on the 24th. As for Cape Fear, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-49 loss against E.E. Smith on the 24th.
