Basketball Recap: Mercyhurst Prep Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mercyhurst Prep can now relate to. They fell to the Northwestern Wildcats 46-42. While losing is never fun, the Lakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 265th in Pennsylvania, while the Wildcats are ranked 67th in Pennsylvania).

Makayla Presser-Palmer was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 38 points and 14 boards for Northwestern. Presser-Palmer's big performance that evening made it 20 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Bucci, who posted three points and six rebounds.

Mercyhurst Prep has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. The win keeps them at an undefeated 23-0.

As of now, neither Mercyhurst Prep nor Northwestern have any future games scheduled.
