Baseball Recap: St. Charles Comes Up Short

St. Charles extended their losing streak to eight on Wednesday, dropping them down to 2-14. They took a 12-9 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vestaburg Wolverines. If the Bulldogs were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Wolverines when the teams met back in April of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Vestaburg, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-18-1. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for their hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

For Vestaburg's part, Jansen Scholer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Scholer has posted since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

In other batting news, Carter Allbee and Lucas Bunton did most of the damage at the plate: Allbee went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three RBI, while Bunton got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Allbee a new career-high. Blake Rasmussen was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI.

St. Charles does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Vestaburg, they will host Montabella at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.52 runs per game on average), something the Wolverines will no doubt try to take advantage of.
