Football Recap: Zuni Takes a Loss

Zuni lost against Gallup back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Thunderbirds came up short against the Bengals, falling 32-8. The Thunderbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gallup's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Truitt Lewis led the charge by rushing for 169 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Lewis also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 0.5 sacks and making three total tackles. Gallup also got a significant boost from Jayson Bruner, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 139 yards.

Zuni's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Gallup, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Zuni will square off against rival Crownpoint at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Gallup is set to challenge their familiar foe Wingate at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
