Softball Recap: Russellville Takes Down Ranked North Callaway

Russellville faced North Callaway in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Indians put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 12-2 win. This was payback for the Indians, who suffered a 13-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.

K'Lea Basnett was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Basnett was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and eight RBI while going 2-for-4. Those home runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Schaffer, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI. Karsyn Duncan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Russellville lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory got Russellville back to even at 3-3. As for North Callaway, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 3-3.

Looking ahead, Russellville will challenge Vienna at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for North Callaway, they will take on Wright City at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
