Basketball Recap: South El Monte Snags Fourth Win in Last Five Games

While South El Monte has struggled at home with four straight losses, that wasn't the case on Monday thanks to Justine Lucero. The South El Monte Eagles simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Mountain View Vikings 60-12 thanks in part to Lucero, who posted 26 points and six steals. Lucero is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least four every time she's taken the court this season.

Another player making a difference was Frida Lopez, who had 13 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. She is becoming a predictor of South El Monte's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 5-10 when she doesn't).

South El Monte has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-10 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for Mountain View, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-14.

South El Monte wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 33-26 defeat against Gabrielino on the 21st. Mountain View has also already played their next contest (against Marshall), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
