Softball Recap: Gretna East Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Gretna East won the last time they faced Mercy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Griffins blew past the Monarchs 10-1. The result was nothing new for the Griffins, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Gretna East got a great performance from Kendall Johnson as she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Johnson has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Emerson Husen was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 11 matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Horst, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Gretna East was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Gretna East is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mercy, they dropped their record down to 6-20 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Gretna East will challenge Northwest at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Griffins 2.8, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Mercy, they will welcome Gross Catholic at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
