Basketball Game Preview: Dos Palos Broncos vs. Farmersville Aztecs

The Dos Palos Broncos will venture away from home to challenge the Farmersville Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Dos Palos had to suffer through a 54-27 loss at the hands of Coalinga. While losing is never fun, the Broncos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 998th, while the Horned Toads are ranked 362nd).

Meanwhile, Farmersville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They blew past the Wolves 59-6. The Aztecs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Dos Palos better keep an eye on Janessa Garza. She was instrumental in Farmersville's win, dropping a triple-double with 25 points, ten boards, and 13 steals. Garza has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 32 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Haylie Tassey, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Farmersville pushed their record up to 14-14 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 19.6 points over those games. As for Dos Palos, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season.

Dos Palos might still be hurting after the 45-24 loss they got from Farmersville in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Garza, who almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine steals. Now that Dos Palos knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
