Softball Recap: Cozad Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Cozad, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-1 victory over Southern Valley/Alma on Thursday. For the Haymakers, this counts as revenge for the 9-7 win Southern Valley/Alma walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Sara Howell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Cozad's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aubrey Hammerlun, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Cozad's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Southern Valley/Alma, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-6 record.

Cozad has already played their next match, a 10-7 win against Ord on the 13th. As for Southern Valley/Alma, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-4 defeat against Arlington on the 13th.
