Hernando of Mississippi, Catawba Ridge of South Carolina headline new squads entering the rankings.
Weather and spring break have delayed some action around the country but there were still shakeups in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school softball rankings.
Hernando has claimed the top spot in Mississippi and No. 20 overall nationally after defeating defending state champion Northwest Rankin (Brandon) 5-2 last week. Juniors
Callie Desmond and
Katelyn Kirkpatrick both drove in a pair of runs in the win. Fellow junior and Arkansas commit
Macie Dever Boaz leads the team with a .647 batting average, four home runs and 20 RBI.
Catawba Ridge (Fort Mill, S.C.) has jumped into the rankings after winning the James F. Byrnes Tournament over the weekend, improving its overall record to 11-0. The Copperheads are no stranger to winning as they enter 2025 looking for a third straight state championship. They return plenty of talent, including utility player and Clemson commit
Sarah Rocheleau.
Rocklin is the second Northern California team to enter the MaxPreps Top 25. The Thunder have some big bats in their lineup, including Coastal Carolina commit
Savannah Lorenzini and Nevada signee
Katie Wetteland. Sophomore pitcher
Payton Prior is off to a solid start this season, posting a 0.85 ERA in 41 innings of work.
Also new this week from California is
Huntington Beach. The Oilers have averaged over 10 runs per game to start the season. Class of 2027 slugger
Bree Carlson has blasted four home runs and driven in 14 runs through five games. Jacksonville State University commit
Tea Gutierrez is also off to a hot start, batting .571 with a .684 on-base percentage.
Kingwood (Texas) is back in the rankings after a 4-1 win over Atascocita (Humble) on Friday. Class of 2027 standout
Hunter Quentel went the distance, striking out 10 batters. She and senior Virginia Tech commit
Mia Gagliardi hit back-to-back home runs to seal the game in the bottom of the sixth.
The top-ranked team in Alabama remains up for debate. A 6-4 win over Springville on Monday evening helped
Thompson (Alabaster) move to the No. 25 spot.
Allie Bauer,
Kadyn Bush and
Jillian Kato delivered clutch hits to put the Warriors in front and they held on for a big victory.
No. 19
Neshannock (New Castle, Pa.) started its season Friday and reigning MaxPreps State Player of the Year
Addy Frye looked to be in mid-season form. The Providence commit struck out 17 batters and threw a complete-game no-hitter in a 4-0 win over Chartiers Valley (Bridgeville).

Senior Olivia Higginbotham has been key in Hernando's 12-0 start. The Tigers have outscored opponents 111-31 heading into today's game against Southaven. (FILE PHOTO: Jim Jarrett)
