Football Game Preview: Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears vs. Vidor Pirates

Little Cypress-Mauriceville is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. After each having a week off, they and the Vidor Pirates will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses apiece dating back to last season.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Iowa two weeks ago (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Bears came up short against the Yellowjackets, falling 28-8. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 386th in Texas, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 36th in Louisiana).

Meanwhile, Vidor lost 49-28 to Hamshire-Fannett two weeks ago. While the Pirates didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Longhorns 14-7 in the first quarter.

Vidor's defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Little Cypress-Mauriceville, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 0-3.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Vidor in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, but they still walked away with a 16-12 win. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
