Preview: Miramonte Matadors vs. Acalanes Dons

Miramonte and Acalanes are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Miramonte Matadors will take on the Acalanes Dons at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Miramonte comes in on six and Acalanes on 13.

Last Thursday, Miramonte didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Mt. Diablo, but they still walked away with a 57-52 victory.

Miramonte's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Julia Quinn Ferguson, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quinn Ferguson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karena Eberts, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Acalanes put the finishing touches on their 18th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Northgate 70-42 at home. Given Acalanes' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 25th, while Northgate is ranked 196th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Miramonte is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches, which provided a massive bump to their 19-9 record this season. As for Acalanes, they pushed their record up to 24-4 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home.

Miramonte lost to Acalanes on the road by a decisive 56-40 margin when the teams last played back in January. Can Miramonte avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
