Basketball Game Preview: Rio Hondo Prep Kares vs. Los Osos Grizzlies

The Rio Hondo Prep Kares and the Los Osos Grizzlies will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Los Osos is hoping to do what South El Monte couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Rio Hondo Prep's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Rio Hondo Prep claimed a resounding 64-19 victory over South El Monte.

Rio Hondo Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but TARA RILEY led the charge by going 8 of 16 on her way to 22 points along with six steals and five boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which RILEY has scored at least a third of Rio Hondo Prep's points. The team also got some help courtesy of MADISON BURL, who went 5 of 9 en route to 10 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Rio Hondo Prep smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Los Osos). They blew past Anaheim 67-42 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Grizzlies as they're now sitting on five straight.

Los Osos found their leader in sophomore Naomi Walls, who went 9 of 21 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Walls a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Katie Freitas, who posted 16 points and eight rebounds.

Rio Hondo Prep's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Los Osos, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
