Basketball Recap: Yuba City Falls Despite Big Games from Juliana Vasquez and Cythlali Cortez

Yuba City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 47-36 to the River Valley Falcons. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Honkers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 48-26 back in January.

Yuba City's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Cythlali Cortez, who posted 11 points in addition to eight boards and three steals, and Juliana Vasquez, who went 7 for 15 on her way to 13 points.

Gurleen Nijjar went supernova for River Valley, putting up 22 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Nijjar a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Avneeth Gill, who scored seven points and five steals.

Yuba City's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for River Valley, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-13 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Del Campo the next time they take the court. Yuba City will head out to face Del Campo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, while River Valley will host them at 7:30 p.m. on February 11th.
