Basketball Recap: Lakeside Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Elise Henderson and Angela Serrano

Lakeside lost against Perris back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lakeside Lancers fell just short of the Perris Panthers by a score of 47-45. The Lancers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Lakeside's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Angela Serrano, who posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and six assists, and Elise Henderson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Henderson a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Pozos Padilla, who scored six points and seven steals.

Even though they lost, Lakeside smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

Perris' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carina Castaneda, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Castaneda has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 20 times she's played. E'Niece Ray was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on nine points and 16 rebounds.

Lakeside's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Perris, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.

Lakeside will square off against Hillcrest at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Hillcrest will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Lakeside surely won't give up without a fight. Perris has already played their next game (against Arlington), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
