Football Recap: Hempstead's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Hempstead had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 2-6 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top against the Jefferson Hawks by a score of 56-48. The score was all tied up 28-28 at the break, but the Mustangs were the better team in the second half.

As for Jefferson, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-7. Even if they couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their offense, which had struggled int the games prior.

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Vernon Benda, who threw for 310 yards and six touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards. Uweza Kalolero was another key rusher, gaining 211 total yards and two touchdowns.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Hempstead is set to face off against their familiar foe Bettendorf at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Jefferson will challenge rival Cedar Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
