Recap: Charleroi Cougars vs. Waynesburg Central Raiders
The Charleroi Cougars suffered their biggest loss since January 2nd on Thursday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 62-41 walloping at the hands of Waynesburg Central. Charleroi has not had much luck with Waynesburg Central recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Loss or not, Charleroi got some senior leadership from Riley Jones and Ella Sypolt. Jones scored 16 points, while Sypolt. scored 12 points.
Josie Horne was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with nine rebounds and three steals for Waynesburg Central. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Horne has scored all season. Peyton Cowell was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with ten rebounds and two steals.
Charleroi's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Waynesburg Central, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-1.
Charleroi will look to defend their home court on Monday against Yough at 7:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Pennsylvania (Yough is ranked 426th, while Charleroi is ranked 438th). As for Waynesburg Central, they will head out on the road to square off against McGuffey at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. McGuffey is on a three-game streak of home wins, Waynesburg Central a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
