Baseball Recap: Flint River Academy Makes It Eight in a Row at Home

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Flint River Academy). They blew past the Holy Spirit Prep Cougars 22-7 on Tuesday. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by six runs or more this season.

Hunter Pike was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brack Spangler, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Flint River Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Flint River Academy's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Spirit Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-3 record this season.

Flint River Academy will face off against Lafayette Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 3.3, the Cougars 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Holy Spirit Prep, they will square off against Galloway at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars are facing the Scots at the right time seeing as the Scots are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
